'Add the Words' Campaign Launched

Using new media (social networking) and old (fliers and billboards), a new initiative launched today, hoping to update Idaho's human-rights law by adding "sexual orientation and gender identity" to current protections for race, color, sex, national origin and disability.

The "Add the Words" campaign encourages citizens to send Idaho lawmakers electronic sticky notes, in hopes of holding a hearing on the proposal in the 2012 legislative session. During the 2011 session, real sticky notes were attached to the door of Senate State Affairs Committee Chairman Curt McKenzie, but to no avail.

According to Add the Words spokesman Mistie Tolman, a state poll indicated 63 percent of Idahoans believe it should be illegal to fire someone based on sexual orientation.
