Former food truck purveyor Brian Garrett quietly opened his highly anticipated brick-and-mortar, Saint Lawrence Gridiron, last night in the former Redheaded Finn location at 705 W. Bannock Street.

The space features lots of reclaimed wood accents, including a sleek wood floor, large windows and a long bar. Garrett kept the sprawling patio space intact, where he plans to set up his 84-inch Lang BBQ smoker when it arrives.

The menu is peppered with meaty fare, including: bones on toast ($7), butter-poached lamb with braised fennel ($19), gougere pork sliders ($7) and a smoked brisket platter with rye gherkins and quince onion relish ($22).  There are also a few vegetarian options, like the BBQ beet sandwich ($9) with fromage blanc and watercress; and the radish and burrata salad ($9) with big hunks of milky burrata cheese, radish coins, baby greens, sorrel, parsley and chives.

Ernest Hemingway also makes an appearance on the menu. The Ernest Burger ($10) is adapted from an old recipe penned by the famous author, which includes tons of spices. SLG’s version also comes topped with chow chow, a veggie pickle relish popular in the South.

Saint Lawrence Gridiron also has eight beers on tap—including brews from North Coast and Ballast Point along with locals like Payette and Woodland Empire—and a diverse wine list with affordable by-the-bottle options, like the 2012 Chateau de Campuget Rose for $24 and the 2012 Aizpurua Txakoli for $26.

The wine list also includes the 2013 Jolie-Pitt-Perrin Chateau Miraval Cotes de Provence Rose ($40), which Garrett enthusiastically praised, despite the wine’s affiliation with stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. And Garrett isn’t alone: Wine Spectator ranked the rose 84th on its top 100 wines of 2013 list.

Saint Lawrence Gridiron is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner.
