Best Local Gay-Friendly Bar

The Balcony

The Balcony has been at the top of this list for the last 15 years, and its history is intertwined with that of the LGBT community in Boise. For context, Boise Pride Week just celebrated its 25th anniversary, and Idaho had its first gay legislator—Nicole LeFavour—in 2004. The Eighth Street dance club is an institution, but not a museum piece: It's also the winner of Best Local Dance Club this year.

2nd Place: The Lucky Dog Tavern—If there's a term that defines Lucky Dog Tavern, it's "full service." Trivia? Check. Drinking and dancing? Check and check. Quiet nooks for conversation and a basement-y vibe? Also check. It's also one of the seats of LGBT culture in town, throwing raucous Pride parties.

3rd Place: Neurolux—Neurolux isn't explicitly a gay bar, but it isn't not a gay bar, either. With a friendly, inclusive atmosphere, it's a watering hole for one and all, where patrons can drink, dance, and be themselves to their hearts' content.
