Best Local Chinese

Yen Ching

Since opening in 1986, Yen Ching has been serving the Boise lunch and dinner crowd healthy helpings of Chinese food that hits the spot at any time of day. Apart from the expected options like fried rice and chow mein, the eatery also boasts a dim sum menu, an almost unheard-of delicacy in Boise, with traditional dishes like steamed beef tripe, chicken feet with black bean sauce and taro cakes for the adventurous. The wide variety of lunch choices, lack of MSG and warm, friendly service keep customers coming back.

2nd Place: Golden Star—Golden Star is a great choice for someone in search of a tasty meal that won't break the bank. Offering up a selection of Americanized Chinese (and just plain American) dishes alongside authentic Cantonese specials, this is the perfect spot to bring a picky friend for a sandwich or an intrepid one for a plate of moo-goo gai-pan.

3rd Place: Panda Garden—With two Overland Road locations, online ordering and delivery, this local spot has Boiseans covered for Chinese and Japanese dishes that arrive hot and on time. The sushi and sashimi menu, which is extensive for a takeout restaurant, earns Panda Garden extra points.
