Best Local Bar

If you dig roots or Americana music, there's no better place to go in Boise than Pengilly's. On any given night, you might see one of the best local songwriters or bands play for free, including Hillfolk Noir, Andy Byron, The Frim Fram Four and Tylor and the Train Robbers. Just be sure to bring your dancing shoes.

2nd Place: Spacebar Arcade—Feel like going downtown but not in the mood for clubbing? Head over to the Spacebar. The old-school pinball and arcade games are loads of fun, although some of them may make you want to tear your hair out at times. The Spacebar also hosts numerous trivia and DJ nights. But if you go, be warned: They take their Dig Dug seriously down there.

3rd Place: Neurolux—We've already brought up the reputation Neurolux has for great live music (see Best Local Music Venue), so let's talk about the jukebox. Where else in this town could you pay $2 or $3 and hear 30-plus minutes of everything from Hank Williams and Wanda Jackson to The Shivas and Chelsea Wolfe? The strong drinks don't hurt either—not until the next morning, anyway.
