Senate Minority Leader Clint Stennett, D-Ketchum, isn't letting a little brain surgery keep him from work.

Stennett returned to his seat in the Idaho Legislature last week, only one week after undergoing surgery to reduce swelling in his brain. Former Sun Valley Mayor Jon Thorson filled in while Stennett was recuperating.

Stennett's return was a surprise for even his fellow legislators, who were caught off-guard by his early return to his duties.

"This ordeal has been a rude awakening, but I am feeling strong and am ready to face the challenges before me, including the legislative session," Stennett wrote in a public release.

Stennett is scheduled to undergo continuing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for what the Spokesman-Review reports is brain cancer.

In other legislative health news, Rep. Dennis Lake, R-Blackfoot, suffered a minor stroke on the floor of the House last week and had to be taken by ambulance for treatment.

He was released from the hospital and has returned to his duties on Monday.
