There's a new tardigrade in town. At its July 1 soft opening, Water Bear Bar at 350 N. Ninth St. in downtown Boise established itself as one of Boise's up-and-coming hotspots. Owner-bartenders Kylie North and Laura Keeler have created a unique cocktail lounge with spacious and comfortable feel, featuring leather seats and a wooden bar—and a few quirky details like colorful Dino mugs, a bespectacled taxidermy coyote and a long shuffleboard table give it novelty and charm. plants hang from the ceiling and large windows lend an earthen, spacious feel.

Then, there are the drinks. Selections from the menu also lean toward the earthen ("Piney Colada, anyone?") and there are old fashioneds of the day. Low-alcohol and non-alcoholic cocktails are also on the menu, like the Water Slide, with watermelon, mint, lime and soda. Don't miss the food, either: There's a meat-and-cheese plate, raw oysters and popcorn.
