Actors' Guild must move
Garden City's only community theater, The Actors' Guild, has been asked to leave their location in Lambert Hall by June 1 by the Garden City Council. The Actors' Guild called Lambert Hall home for the last six years and now, due to the needs of the City, the space is no longer available to them. The Guild is currently looking for a new space for the theatre and a place to store their sets, props and costumes.
The Actors' Guild has been in operation for the last nine years and has produced a wide variety of entertainment, ranging from Shakespeare to new plays by local playwrights. The Guild also provides learning opportunities in acting, directing and set design.
Michael Murphy, president of the board of directors, thanks Garden City for all their help in the past and hopes the Guild will be able to continue to provide programming for Garden City residents. Ed Britt, Artistic Director said, "The move comes at a difficult time for the theatre, as we are just beginning to rebuild our audience after 9/11 and the economic downturn of the last two years. We hope the people who have enjoyed our performances in the past will want to see us continue and will supply both financial and spiritual support."

CREATIVE PIANIST FESTIVAL
The deadline for the Fourth Annual International Festival for Creative Pianists has been extended to May 25. Pianists up to age 18 or grade 12 (as of April 1, 2004) can compete for 14 First Prizes in the Fourth Annual International Festival for Creative Pianists at the Esther Simplot Performing Arts Academy in Boise, June 15-19.
Founded by Arthur Houle, this festival is the only competition of its kind in the world, combining both classical and jazz idioms in a constructive, educational setting. Students compete for novel prizes that promote neglected but important creative skills and repertory--original concerto cadenzas and classical embellishing/improvisation, versatility, lyricism, original compositions, works by female composers, tasteful arrangements/transcriptions, proficiency on digital keyboard and more.
The festival has been cited on NPR, in a major article in the April 2003 issue of Clavier, and in other music publications such as Piano & Keyboard, Piano Today, and the London-based Piano magazine.
NEA AWARDS LOG CABIN $25,000
The National Endowment for the Arts has chosen the Log Cabin Literary Center's summer writing camp as one of the top ten summer education programs in all arts disciplines in the nation, and awarded the Log Cabin $25,000. This funding will help the Log Cabin offer free summer writing workshops to Shoshone-Bannock Reservation fourth through twelfth graders this summer from June 14 to July 2.
The Log Cabin's summer program is the only literary discipline to serve as a model for the NEA's summer arts education initiative. Summer Writing Camp is taught by professional writers trained in the Log Cabin Literary Center's Writers in the Schools program, which serves 1,000 children and young adults during the school year.
The Log Cabin Summer Camp is in its ninth year in Boise, its third year in Caldwell and its first year in Wood River Valley, Garden Valley and Grangeville. Camp sessions in communities other than Fort Hall run one week and culminate in a reading, publication on the Web at logcablit.org and in a printed anthology.

BROADWAY in Boise new Season
Wells Fargo will partner with the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts at Boise State University to sponsor the center's next Broadway in Boise series 2004-2005.
The season will include the hot, new Mel Brooks musical, The Producers plus Smokey Joe's Cafe, The Full Monty and Cats.
In addition to the four new shows this season, Broadway In Boise will also present an encore performance of Rent, Michael Flatley's Lord of the Ring Dance and Hal Holbrook in Mark Twain Tonight.
