In 2012, following a rash of falls from balconies on the campus of Washington State University, Pullman, Wash. Mayor Glenn Johnson had a blunt reaction: "You can legislate, and there's still stupidity out there."
Johnson's comments came in the wake of a series of separate incidents in which students fell from frat house balconies and roofs.
"This is a challenging age," WSU Dean of Students Melynda Huskey said at the time. "Young men in their late teens and early 20s are not always the best assessors of personal risk."
KREM-TV reports another WSU student is in serious condition after falling from a fire escape at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house Sept. 19. Police said the 20-year-old male fell approximately 18 feet, landing head-first on concrete. Police also confirmed alcohol was involved in the incident.
