The August 30 Ani DiFranco show has been cancelled. Due to a case of tendonitis, DiFranco has been ordered by her doctor to cancel the tour for now. Yeah, yeah, I know. Another cancellation.
China Blue hosts a CD release party for Paul Matthew Peterson and the Strat O'Loungers at 8 p.m. on July 29. There's a $5 cover. Band lineup includes Tom Moore, Pat Pullium, Dave Robinette, Ken Harris, Barney Southerd and possibly Ben Burdick. Wear your dancing shoes.
First things first. Local musicians ... are you paying attention? No, and that's the problem. You complain about there not being enough coverage of local music, or the coverage there is not cutting it. Quit bitching and let me know you're out there and what you're doing.
Second, the Best of Boise poll. Over one hundred bands have been nominated but have only one vote each. Puh-leeze. Go to www.boiseweekly.com and vote for your favorite band. If you are in a band, vote for yourself and get your fans to vote for you, too. A tie among bands with one vote each just is not going to happen.
Third, the Band Roster. For awhile, this was broken, but it's fixed now. If you e-mail me your band information (email@example.com), and I am here, I will e-mail you a response that day. If you do not get an e-mail from me, send me another one or call me (344-2055, ext. 3006).
Fourth, a paper that must not be named, recently covered a subject very near and dear to my heart-music. Feh. My editor and I were surprised to see certain people of a musical persuasion featured. No. Bad bands. I almost had to start a "blacklist," but that's just not my style. I want to show the love, but I've gotta get some back. I don't know you're out there if you don't tell me. Call me, e-mail me, come see me, send me CDs and press kits, do something. You know what paper you really belong in. You're local. We're local. Enough said.
And, fifth, there is still the Pabst band promotion going on in Boise Weekly. E-mail a photo of your band and a 50-word bio to our ad director, Nancy Spittle at firstname.lastname@example.org and get your band recognized. A.S.A.P.
That is all for now. I welcome your comments be they nasty or nice, but at least get on the ball and do something.
