Little Italy Finds a Home in Meridian

"For anyone who has spent time back East, this will take them back home with the first bite," boasts Beth Zahm, owner of the newly opened Ameci's Italian Kitchen in the City Marketplace.

A franchise out of Southern California, Zahm's location is number 47 and the first beyond the borders of the Golden State. But don't let the word "franchise" conjure ideas of food shipped up from some franchise storehouse in So. Cal. Everything from the sauce to the dough is made at the store.

Describing Ameci's as a family friendly place, Zahm says the menu includes New York-style hand-tossed pizza, pasta of all kinds from veal parmigiana to chicken piccata, calzones, hot and cold sub sandwiches and salads. Ameci's delivers to the Eagle and Meridian areas, offers dine-in and take-out, as well as catering services. Police and firemen who dine in uniform or show their badges receive 30 percent off and teachers get a 20 percent discount. Ameci's also supports area schools by donating 50 cents for each red schoolhouse (found on Ameci's pizza boxes) rendered by a collecting school.

DoBo Openings Short List

Not BoDo, silly—DoBo, or Downtown Boise (a term I'm officially outing to describe that area between BoDo and the North End). Koi's official opening is Thursday, March 23. Expect Japanese cuisine with a Peruvian flair from the fine restaurateurs who brought you Mai Thai.

Koi, 800 W. Idaho St. # 112, 343-3474.

On March 29, Jenny's Lunch Line opens its storefront location after moving out of its catering-only location and into the space formerly occupied by Le Poulet Rouge's bakery. Jenny's churns out a new menu each day, with fresh and healthy sandwiches, salads, soups that are often vegetarian friendly. Call or fax in your order and Jenny's will deliver lunch to your office. Get on the menu distribution list by e-mailing jennysledge@mac.com. Call the lunch line before 11:45 a.m. to order your lunch at 871-2079, or fax it in to 338-7859.

Jenny's Lunch Line, 106 N. 6th St., 433-0092.
