The words "bad ass" pop up a lot in the comments on YouTube videos of Samantha Fish. It's an apt descriptor. The Kansas City, Mo. blues singer, songwriter and guitarist packs a lot of moxie and, despite her relatively young age of 27, has had a lot of practice in the art of kicking ass, breaking hearts and taking names.
Fish's story follows a quintessentially bluesy arc. She started rubbing shoulders with blues musicians when she was still a teenager, playing in a Kansas City nightclub. Fish started as a drummer but soon moved on to the guitar. From there, she got busy building her career—and a prolific career it has been. With seven albums since 2009, Fish's most recent, Wild Heart (Ruf Records, July 2015), nabbed a No. 1 spot on the Billboard Blues Chart last year. Safe to say, it won't be the last time we see Fish's name on top.
