Albino! Brings Afropop Grooves to Neurolux Tonight

by

In support of their new album, Peralta House, Berkeley-based afrobeat ensemble Albino! has loaded up their biodiesel school bus for a west coast tour. Though a school bus might seem like overkill for most bands, fitting Albino’s 10 members and their assortment of instruments, crazy outfits and body paint into any other vehicle would present a bit of a challenge.

Named “Best World Music” at the SF Weekly Music Awards in 2005, Albino! has been making asses shake in the jazz/funk scene for the last six years. Fans of Fela Kuti’s politically-inspired grooves and driving horn section will find lots to love in Albino’s “heavy heavy afrobeat.”

On Monday, July 6, the group will unpack their gear and cram onto the Neurolux’s stage. Known for their high-energy, theatrical live shows, members of Albino! are sure to spill into the audience for a thumping dance party.

Monday, July 6, 8 p.m., $8, Neurolux, 111 N. 11th St. For more information, visit neurolux.com or call 208.343.0886.
