- Ada County Sheriff
- Adam Dees
Dees confessed to the murders of 80-year-old Ted Welp; his wife, 77-year-old Elaine Welp; and their son, 52-year-old Tom Welp, as well as to the robbery of their home in the Boise Foothills late March 8 and early March 9. The bodies, found March 10 by a relative, showed signs of stab wounds, gun shots and bludgeoning with a baseball bat.
Law enforcement apprehended Dees after he attempted to spend money stolen from the Welps' home at locations across the Treasure Valley, including Barbacoa and the Boise Towne Square Mall; and trying to sell a wedding ring taken from one of the victims.
As part of a plea agreement that would spare him the death penalty, Dees pleaded guilty to First Degree Murder. As part of the proposed sentence, he would also pay penalties and fines of up to $220,000. He also waived his right to appeal.
During Dees' sentencing hearing Aug. 28, District Judge Samuel Hoagland also handed down an extra 25-year prison term for the robbery of the Welp home, ordering the three life terms and 25 years for robbery to be served consecutively.
