This contemporary house looks ready to set sail with three ships' prows. It is located off Warm Springs Avenue not too far up on Warm Springs Mesa. East Starview Drive also heads east to Idaho 21, so you are poised to go east or west when you leave this house. The neighborhood, as you would expect on the mesa, is full of lovely homes. This home is one of the most dramatic. The house is sided in beautiful, brand new olive-green stucco, and the new roof is bronze-colored metal. The driveway leads to the rear of the house, where there is an attached double garage and room for extra parking.
The main door leads to a generously sized hallway lit by several windows and a skylight. To the immediate left is the kitchen, which is equipped with great appliances, including a Jenn-Air stove and a double oven. There are sliding glass doors leading outside. A step down from the kitchen is the enormous living room with a vaulted ceiling and many big windows in the first prow. The floor is covered in large multicolored tiles. There is a ceiling fan, and a floor-to-ceiling, two sided, purple brick fireplace with a raised concrete hearth.
A step up from the living room is a lovely dining room in the second prow. It features wood flooring, contemporary lights and sliding glass doors to a deck. There are outer stairs leading from this deck to the front walk. The vaulted ceilings in kitchen, living room and dining room are covered in light wood. Roof beams are also visible in the living and dining rooms.
The next prow contains the master bedroom with a walk-in closet, sliding glass doors leading to a second deck, and an attached bathroom. In the rear are a large utility room, another full bathroom and a door to the attached garage.
Carpeted stairs in the main hallway lead to the lower level. This floor contains a large carpeted family room with a second fireplace, a wet bar, some unusually angled windows and a door exiting to the front of the house. There are also three bedrooms and a half-bath. Because the owners wanted to keep the windows uncovered, they installed a brand new heavy duty gas forced-air heating and air-conditioning system to counteract the solar gain and loss. The house also includes a central vacuum system.
The lot is landscaped in flowering trees, evergreens, bushes, boulders and three lawn areas. There is a bed due south of the family room wall which would make a great flower or vegetable garden. There is a shed in the backyard and an arbor. Through the judicious use of plantings and window placement, the yard is completely private.
Pros: The exterior is spectacular, including the roof lines of the two garages in the back. The views are incredible, from the windows and the decks and, I'm told, even more amazing at night when looking at the valley lights below and the stars above. I love the renovated living and dining rooms, and the purple fireplace is fun and darling.
Cons: The current owners renovated the living and dining rooms, and redid the exterior before they had to sell. More redecorating is necessary. While the bathrooms and kitchen are perfectly adequate, they are dated and should probably be redone. Some of the bottom floor needs to be recarpeted, and closets need to be built in two of the bedrooms. One bedroom needs a better egress window.
