After playing a couple of songs, Jan Reed—aka Jan Summerhays—asked the audience how many were attending Treefort for the first time. A few people raised their hands.

"Welcome," Reed said.

This wasn't Reed's first Treefort: the local singer-songwriter has played each year of the festival so far. Her set at The District on March 26 featured the soothing vocals, thoughtful lyrics and gorgeous folk melodies that have made her one of the Boise music scene's hidden gems. This time around, Reed received support from local musician Jean Cardeno, whose clean harmonies and discreet fiddle and mandolin playing are the perfect complement.

"This is also my first Treefort experience," Cardeno told the crowd. "So, to the virgins."
