If you express yourself in song, here's a bit of news tailor-made for you.
The annual International Songwriting Competition
has extended its deadline to Tuesday, Nov. 4. ISC is open to amateurs and professionals, and its judges are some of the most important people and some of the best and most respected artists in the music industry.
Songs are judged based on arrangement, creativity, lyrics (except in instrumentals, of course), melody, originality and general awesomeness. Song categories span the spectrum from adult contemporary to world music, and winners walk away with some sweet prizes
: cash (the sweetest), instruments, accessories, recording software, memberships and subscriptions.
This year's panel of judges include bigwigs from the likes of Warner Bros., Vevo, Motown and Funny or Die; and artists such as Keane, John Hiatt, Avicii and the incomparable Tom Waits. Rock band American Authors
will also serve on the judges' panel and, coincidentally, will play the Knitting Factory on Saturday, Oct. 11
You can submit songs via email, the ISC website or SonicBids
, and each entry costs $35.
