In her introduction to Poliça’s main stage set on Sunday, March 23, festival producer Lori Shandro called the Minneapolis-based synthpop band Treefort’s “white buffalo.” Festival organizers had tried to book the band since Treefort 2012, she explained, but it had never worked out until this year.

The set proved worth the wait. Waves of lithe basslines, propulsive beats (laid down by two drummers) and alternately soothing and quirky synthesizer hooks flowed around Channy Leaneagh’s serene, beguiling vocals. At the end of the set, the crowd called for an encore even after stagehands started dismantling the drum kits.

Boise may get the chance to see Poliça again, though. Leaneagh said the band would like to play Treefort another year.
