The city of Boise, Capital City Development Corporation and Veterans Park Neighborhood Association have issued a call for artist proposals for a project to beautify the western boundary of Whittier Elementary on 301 N. 29th Street.
Trees and other natural barriers between the grade school and Whitewater Park Boulevard were removed during construction of Whitewater Park Blvd. as part of the 30th Street Extension project, exposing the playground to the busy street.
The school hosted a charette—or brainstorming event—in March to address envision some kind of artistic barrier between the school and street, but planners are looking for a permanent solution.
Whittier Elementary is a Title I school and its students come from a range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The art installation should reflect the school's—and, by extension, Boise's—changing demographics.
The submission deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. Applicants can register and download details at DemandStar.
