Need Something To Do Thursday?

Are universities teaching us what we need to learn? Though receiving a college diploma is increasingly important to job seekers, the skills that come along with it may not satisfy the demands of our economic, cultural or civic lives.

At least, that's the thesis that will be argued by Louis Menand in his lecture, "The Marketplace of Ideas: Reform and Resistance in the American University," which he presents tonight at the Morrison Center at 7 p.m.

Menand is an American studies scholar and author of several books, including The Metaphysical Club. The lecture is free to attend and doors open at 6:30 p.m.
