Anyone who is tired of spring taunting us with brief cameos before disappearing behind winter-like temperatures needs a heavy dose of warm weather-style excitement.

Luckily, the annual Salmon River Jet Boat Races are back and ready to slam a little fun in spring's face Friday, April 19-Sunday, April 21. The 29th annual event includes 20 jet boat teams from the United States and Canada, competing on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors can kick off the weekend with a community barbecue at 6 p.m. on Friday for $10 a person before heading to the riverbank to watch the action on Saturday and Sunday. A free fireworks display will follow the races on Saturday, and vendors will be set up throughout Riggins during the weekend.

Out-of-towners can get some deals on lodging in Riggins, New Meadows, McCall, Whitebird and Grangeville by calling 1-800-844-3246.

Races begin at 10 a.m. each day.
