Need Something To Do Tuesday?

American politics is more than red versus blue. Members of Congress jockey for federal dollars to be spent in their districts, the Supreme Court weighs the merits of reading the Constitution as a static or living document, and the president wrings his hands daily over how best to spend his political capital.

Politics is work.

Few knew this better than former Idaho Sen. Frank Church, whose legacy includes service on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and environmental advocacy.

Today at the Heatherwood Retirement Community at 5277 Kootenai St., Northwest Nazarene University Professor of Political Science Stephen K. Shaw will deliver an address on Church's advocacy of deliberative democracy in a politically and ideologically varied world.

The lecture begins at 3 p.m. and is free to the public.
