Art in the Bar 8 Takes Over Knitting Factory Today

Art in the Bar 8, hosted by Dead Bird Local Art and Framing, features work by Green Chutes Artists Co-op members and is free to the public today, Sunday, Feb. 17, at the Knitting Factory.

“[It's] an art show by artists, for artists,” said Ellen DeAngelis, owner of Dead Bird. "[It's] a staple for local artists.”

Dead Bird Gallery has hosted this quarterly show for two years. DeAngelis became a custom framer a year ago as a way to help struggling artists afford the often pricey frame jobs needed for pieces to be hung before a show. She reinvents frames from old ones, creatively piecing them together with vintage, recycled materials.

“It’s a way to undercut the industry, a way for me to give back,” she said.

For today's Art in the Bar event, DeAngelis said about half of the art on display will be from Green Chutes artists.

Aside from the full bar and a free raffle for Green Chutes and Dead Bird Framing gift cards, there will be an eclectic array of art, including feather art, jewelry, photography, paintings and metal sculptures.

“You name it, it will probably be there," DeAngelis said.

Art in the Bar 8 opens at noon and continues until 9 p.m. Don’t forgot to bring your ID if you plan on drinking, and be prepared to mingle with local art lovers from around the Treasure Valley.
