Deadline for The Cabin's Second Annual Writers in the Attic is Looming

Rooms: Writers in the Attic was the debut anthology and writing competition launched by the Cabin.

In December, Boise literary outlet The Cabin debuted Rooms: Writers in the Attic, an anthology of 29 Idaho authors selected for their original work on the theme "rooms."

The competition returns this year for a 2013 anthology of Writers in the Attic on the subject "detour." Submissions are open for Gem State writers until the nearing deadline, Friday, Feb. 22. The competition is open to those 18 and older and stories must be 1,500 words or less on the anthology's subject.

"The main route is closed, plans have changed, there are unanticipated events and unreadable signs, backtracks, road blocks—which path do you take? Sometimes we have to deviate from a direct course, are forced, or choose, to take a circuitous or roundabout way," The Cabin wrote in a press release.

Stories will be blind-judged by author and Boise State University professor Dr. Bruce Ballenger. The writer of the top story will be awarded a cash prize.

More information, including competition guidelines and forms, is available at, at 801 S. Capitol Blvd. or by telephone at 208-331-8000.
