Raising Arizona, the 1987 black comedy directed by the Coen Brothers and starring Nicolas Cage, won't be playing at the Egyptian Theatre Saturday, Jan. 12, contrary to the Pick that ran in this week's Boise Weekly.
Boise Classic Movies, which would have presented the film as part of a series of Coen Brothers movies playing during January, nixed the film when only 22 tickets were sold by the pre-event deadline of Saturday, Jan. 5. Presentations by Boise Classic Movies require 200 tickets to be sold a week in advance in order for the film to play.
"Raising Arizona didn't reach the 200-ticket tipping point on boiseclassicmovies.com. Sadly, it won't be showing after all," wrote Wyatt Werner, founder of Boise Classic Movies, in the article's comment section.
Pulp Fiction was also canceled because of low ticket sales. Future potential BCM presentations include Coen Brothers films Fargo on Saturday, Jan. 19, and Blood Simple, on Saturday, Jan. 26.
