There are a couple of fascinating things about children's band Play Date. The first is that one of its members, Greg Attonito, made his name in the punk band The Bouncing Souls. The second is the kind of crowd the duo draws in—aging punks, tattooed moms and their boisterous kids.
The McCall-based band dropped its debut album, Imagination, in October and is now hard at work on the kids rock circuit, which reportedly includes a side stage at Lollapalooza called Kidzapalooza.
Boise Weekly caught up with the band at its CD release show at The Crux in October to quiz its members about multi-generational audiences, how to write songs for children and more. The result is the latest episode in BW's continuing video series, Scenes From a Scene.
