Best of Boise Voting is Open

All hail the ultimate popularity contest.

Once again, Boise Weekly is giving its readers the chance to have their say on what are the coolest, best, awesomest and overall most-outstanding aspects of life in the Treasure Valley. You guessed it, it's once again time for Best of Boise.

If you've been chomping at the bit, just waiting to tell us where to go—literally—now is your time. Voting for the 2012 Best of Boise is officially open.

As in years past, voting is online only and divided across an array of categories, from food and drink to recreation to public happenings. But since we love the new and up-and-coming, there are a few changes to voting this year.

We've teamed with local online voting hub Urban Chalk to handle our voting this year. While Urban Chalk is an expansive site year-round, the subcategory for Best of Boise follows the guidelines BW readers have become familiar with over the years: We only accept votes for locally owned and operated business, which means no franchises, please.

You can find your link to the Best of Boise ballot on Urban Chalk. You will need to set up a separate account with Urban Chalk in order for your vote to count, but with that comes the ability to cast your vote by scanning the QR codes you'll find at businesses around town.

That's right, as you're there and feel compelled to proclaim your choice for the very best in Boise, you just have to whip out your smartphone to do it.

Also, polling will be an ongoing process, which means you don't have to complete your ballot all in one shot. Voting will be open through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, and you have up until that point to make your choice or even change your mind. Remember, you must answer at least 15 questions to have your ballot count and you must be a registered user.

You'll even be able to watch the voting action on a new leaderboard feature we're including this year, which will be showing the action up until the last weeks of voting, when we'll play our cards a little closer to our chest.

The new polling system also includes menus of some of the most-common answers in each category, so you won't have to answer "that place by the laundry that has great salsa." If you don't find your favorite already listed, you can always write it in the blank space at the bottom of the list.

Now that you're ready to vote, here's one more reminder of the important facts:

• Voting is open until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26.
• You can adjust your ballot up until the poll closes.
• You must be a registered user at Urban Chalk to cast a vote.
• You must answer at least 15 questions to have your vote count.
• You can scan QR codes around town to vote for your favorites.
• You can find the survey via the link on the homepage at
• You can write in answers if you don't see them on the list.

Final results will be published in the Wednesday, Sept. 26, edition of Boise Weekly.
