Adjacent to the stage where the Exergy Tour officially introduced all 16 teams Wednesday, a mammoth VIP tent stood within the Grove Plaza. All of the long tables were flush with multinational women cyclists, every team sporting the same clothing, be it multi-colored jackets or "Biker Chic" sweaters.
Working the table of hors d'oeuvres were Grove Hotel employees Jon Burchard and Heidi Hughes, trying to push all manner of foods on the event's attendees. A large circle of linen-covered tables held an Exergy Tour ice sculpture dripping into a dish at its center.
"We were told to cater for 300," said Hughes. "We definitely had 300, but we didn't have 300 eating. We were told the athletes have special restrictions on food, and I can't blame them."
Neither Burchard nor Hughes knew anyting about Exergy before the day's event, but both said they might check out the Boise stages of the race today or on Monday, May 28.
"I have to come down here anyway," said Burchard.
