OK, photographers, here's your official warning: Boise Weekly is now accepting entries for its annual Black and White Photo Contest.
That's right, it's time to start digging though your file of images to find the one you think will nab you the cover of the June 20 edition of Boise Weekly, as well as some sweet prize money. All entries are due at BWHQ no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6.
You can enter as many images as you want, as long as you include the $5 per entry fee with each. No, BW isn't making fist-fulls of cash with this contest—all entry fees are used for the cash prizes handed out to the top finishers.
Photographers can enter their images in one of three categories, People, Places or Things.
All entries must be black-and-white monochrome prints (hence the name of the contest) and must be at least 8-inches long in one dimension. Entries must be mounted on a 16-inch by 20-inch white matboard, and each and every entry must have the photographer's name, phone number and address, as well as which category the image is being entered in listed on the back.
But since we're all about keeping up with the changing times, we'll also accept entries digitally, which means you can turn in a CD with high-resolution images, or you can email a high-resolution file to email@example.com. Please remember to put "Black and White Photo" in the subject line of the email and don't forget to include the photographer's name, phone number, address and the category for each image. (Just kidding—apparently we're not quite ready for this yet. Maybe next year ...)
Entries will be judged by a panel of photography experts, who will award winners in each category, as well as a grand-prize winner. That ultimate winning image will grace the cover of the Wednesday, June 20, edition of Boise Weekly and then be auctioned off as part of the annual Boise Weekly Cover Auction on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
And since we're in the mood to try new things, for the first time, the contest will include a Readers' Choice award in each category. We'll post each and every entry online and readers will be able to vote for their favorite images from Thursday, June 7, through Sunday, June 17.
Keep an eye out for more details.
