Even though poetry slams have oversaturated the market, becoming the Livestrong bracelet/Ugg boot of literary events, they're still pretty fun to watch. The rap-battle-meets-poetry-readings showcase the vocal stylings of aspiring writers, and are even more entertaining to watch when there's something big on the line—like a trip to a national festival or competition.
Northwest poets battled it out at the NorthWorst Regional Poetry Slam Deathmatch (kudos to the people who came up with that title) on Feb. 4 for a chance at a national title, and now it's the youngins from Eagle Academy's turn.
Today at 7 p.m. at the Woman of Steel Gallery, Academy students will face off for the chance to represent their school at the 15th Annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in San Francisco.
Catch these up-and-coming poets tonight for $5, or $1 with a student ID, before they hit it big.
