You have to feel for the poor schmucks putting on Republican events. Almost the instant they hit play on their theme music, they tend to get slapped with a lawsuit from the musicians who recorded it.
In the last month alone, both Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney have been sued for their campaign music choices.
In 2008, John McCain was rebuked by Jackson Browne, Survivor, ABBA, John Hall, John Mellencamp and Foo Fighters. Tom Petty sent cease-and-desist letters to both George W. Bush and Michele Bachmann, who also was shot down by Katrina and the Waves.
And then there was the time Bruce Springsteen's scathing class critique, "Born in the USA," was blasted onstage by a Ronald Reagan who had clearly never listened to the lyrics.
And the list goes on and on. At some point, Republicans may have to accept that the only music they won't get chastised for using is by Toby Keith, Ted Nugent and Richard Wagner.
President Barack Obama and the Dems have been shot down occasionally, as well, but with far less frequency. To back that up, the Obama campaign recently released the playlist of songs it intends to use for campaign events.
The list is below, which features Obama's hit single by Al Green, "Let's Stay Together."
