While researching a story on city laws, I interviewed a source who made reference to a Boise city ordinance against fishing from the back of a giraffe.
Being unfamiliar with and exceedingly curious about the incident that would have spawned this law, I immediately googled it and found approximately one bazillion references to it on websites about weird and obscure laws.
One place I didn't find it, however, was in the Boise City Code.
So I called the City Clerk's Office, who had no idea what I was talking about but promised to get back to me.
They just did and it turns out that, no, it is not now, nor has it ever been, illegal to fish from the back of a giraffe in Boise.
In other news, BW is now very, very interested in going giraffe-fishing for a story in the Rec section. If you have a giraffe you are willing to let us ride, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Zoo Boise, we're looking at you.
