Liquid Will Turn into a Comedy Club Five Nights a Week

In August, Boise Weekly ran a story about how local comedians have banded together to create their own shows in the absence of a local comedy club. And the performances have been drawing impressive crowds.

Apparently, Liquid was also taking notice of the draws because they made the decision to start hosting comedy five nights a week, beginning in January.

"We're going to do it in the dead-time from 8-9:30 p.m.," said Jeremy Aevermann, owner of Liquid. "We're going to host open-mics on Wednesdays and then bring in big acts on weekends."

After 9:30 p.m., things will go back to normal with live music and events.

The touring acts Aevermann mentioned will be booked by local comic Jen Adams, and will perform week-long residencies at Liquid. Local comics culled from the open mics will get the chance to open and MC.

Aevermann said he always wanted Liquid to be a comedy club, but that the owners of Hijinx asked him to step back so they could open one.

"I actually got the loan from the bank on it being the Laughing Monkey Comedy Club," said Aevermann.

But now that Hijinx has been closed for over a year and the team behind it hasn't opened another venue, Aevermann felt the time was right.

"I didn’t do a comedy club once before because of those guys," said Aevermann. "But they’ve had plenty of time."

To make it work, Liquid will be curtaining off the game room and bar to provide a better performance atmosphere for comedy. But the curtains will come down once the acts wrap up.

"Everything is going to be exactly the same except we're adding comedy acts from 8-9:30 p.m.," Aevermann said.
