If you thumbed through Best of Boise this year, or the two years prior, you're aware that Boiseans love Boise Bicycle Project. The local bicycle cooperative has won Best Local Nonprofit Organization for three years running.
And if you know a thing or two about bicycles, you may want to offer your expertise at BBP's Volunteer Night.
Of course, you can only get your volunteer on if you've attended an orientation. For those who haven't, orientations are on the first Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. However, for those who have, contributing time and knowledge to BBP has a fantastic payoff.
At Volunteer Night, wrench-wielding wizards disassemble and rebuild bikes that will later carry kids to school and around town. They dismantle bikes that may not be worth repairing but that have valuable parts for future bicycles.
There are also opportunities for the less mechanically minded, such as greeting, organizing parts, printing and mailing. Whatever you wind up doing, you'll know it benefited a worthy local organization and helped get kids a safe set of wheels.
Every Wednesday night is Volunteer Night at Boise Bicycle Project. Get in gear from 6-8 p.m. at BBPHQ, 1027 Lusk St.
