Since the early '80s, Brooklyn-based They Might Be Giants have been a musical enigma. Novelty tunes, experiments likeDial-A-Song, surreal lyrics—"Boat of Car" is a perfect example of the weird that was to come—a slew of kids' albums and a lack of high-profile mainstream success are not ingredients for a long life.
But against the odds, TMBG remains not only a cult favorite but they still fill theaters and venues every time they go out on the road.
The video for "Cloisonne," which is on TMBG's 2011 full-length release, Join Us (Rounder Records), premiered on rollingstone.com on Sept. 19.
