Bands eager to push new content have opted to pre-release music via the Internet to get fans salivating. While iTunes or Amazon might let you play a snippet of the song, other services are letting you hear the whole album before you buy.
American heavy-metal band Mastodon posted their entire upcoming fifth release, The Hunter, complete with trippy interstellar visuals that change along with the track. Even if you prefer the early days of Remission and Leviathan, you can't argue free listening. Mastodon plays the Knitting Factory in Boise on Saturday, Nov. 5.
SoundCloud and thissongissick.com are pushing the new release, Young Sinatra, from Maryland's Logic, a fresh face in rap you haven't heard of. Yet. The "mix tape" is a full-length album and it's entirely free here.
And over on Spotify, you can stream the entirety of (joke?) rap trio Das Racist's Relax. The Brooklyn-based group has upgraded their rap/electronica style since the campy 2008 "Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell." Give it a listen here.
