There's no way to write anything today and get around the fact that it's Sept. 11, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that helped to define the decade that followed. Though the Twin Towers were destroyed, we are still living in their shadows.
There is no shortage of memorials and tributes you can attend today, but why not also celebrate some of the American ideals that came under attack 10 years ago: compassion and capitalism.
Stop by the Idaho Humane Society today and you can get down with both at the BOGO Cat event. Not only can you put your compassion on display by adopting one animal in need, you can adopt two at a helluva bargain. All cat adoptions are 2-for-1 this weekend, so siblings won't have to fight about "whose kitty Felix is." And while there is definitely something to be said about the Costco-ization of kitty adoptions, that's a conversation for another day.
The Humane Society will be open for adoptions from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today.
