Hop Porter Park in Hailey is the place to be today. And tomorrow. The whole weekend, actually. Nestled along the banks of the Big Wood River, Hop Porter Park is going to be a mecca for lovers of folk music.
For 34 years, residents of Hailey and the surrounding areas have congregated to listen to some of folk music's most prolific and popular singers and songwriters over the course of a couple of days during the Northern Rockies Folk Festival. This year promises to live up to the festival's reputation for good times and good music, with James McMurtry and The Gourds headlining, in addition to several local and regional bands.
The show starts tonight at 5 with Quailfish and Roses Pawn Shop entertaining the crowd before James McMurtry goes on at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for tonight only are $16. Take a picnic, your dancing feet and a blanket to hang out on. Sun Valley Brewing will offer wine and beer with which to quench your thirst.
Things get going earlier tomorrow with The Sloans kicking the day off at noon, followed by a whole troop of talented troubadours. The festival ends on a high note with the rootsy rockin' party vibe of The Gourds at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for tomorrow only are $21.
A two-day pass is available for $32. Visit northernrockiesfolkfestival.com for more info and a complete schedule.
