It's Officially Clown Week in Boise; No, Seriously

If someone you know talks about meeting a bunch of clowns on the street this week, it might not be meant as an insult.

Local clowns from the Idaho Gem Jesters gathered at the the Idaho Capitol on Monday afternoon to receive a proclamation from Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, who declared this week National Clown Week. Otter was out of the office but an aide delivered the proclamation and was given a sprinkle of "fairy dust" as payment.

From there, the clowns waddled over to City Hall, where City Council Member Elaine Clegg gave a brief speech to the same effect and gave the Gem Jesters a proclamation signed by Boise Mayor Dave Bieter.

The clowns cheered and invited pedestrians to join them for bowling.

"Uh, sorry. I'd love to, but I can't," said a man hurrying past them on his way out of City Hall.

On Thursday, the clowns will go paddle-boating. You are invited.

Clown Week is now officially upon us.
