We just got word that The Library Coffeehouse—Meridian's beloved coffee shop, bakery and cafe—will close its doors for good on Saturday, May 28, at 2 p.m.
Manager Scott Rittenhouse confirmed that he and his brother, owner Craig Rittenhouse, made the decision to close The Library a month ago, after seven years in business, because of "a bad economy."
Scott said that both the building and business, located at 141 E. Carlton Ave. in Old Town Meridian, are currently up for sale. In fact, a prospective new owner has already toured the property.
"We're willing to help these new owners who have a lot of energy get started with the marketing blitz, recipes, the whole shebang ... So it could be seamless, but there's like a 50 percent chance of that," said Scott.
For those who want one last treat, the Library Coffeehouse will be whipping up a huge batch of their famous cinnamon rolls on Saturday.
"I'm going to be making tons of those cinnamon rolls, and this is the last chance for anybody to have one," said Scott.
