You can look at the calendar or the weather forecast but the real sign that spring has arrived is the glorious arrival of the national pastime. Major league baseball swings into its first full weekend this afternoon. There are 15 games scheduled for today, including the Yankees hosting the Tigers, the Red Sox visiting the Rangers and the Cardinals playing host to the Padres.
Treasure Valley baseball fans will take note that 14 former Boise Hawks are on the opening week rosters, including six suiting up for the Chicago Cubs, parent club of the Hawks. Making his debut this week is former Hawk Andrew Cashner. Eight other former Hawks earned a spot on their clubs' 40-man roster.
FYI, the average ticket price for a major league game in 2011 is $26.91. The Boston Red Sox have the most expensive average ticket at $51.83. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the cheapest average at $15.30.
