Last week, BW ran a DVD review of Nowhere Boy, a fabulous film about the complicated family life of a young John Lennon. Featuring luscious cinematography, an excellent script and a flat-out brilliant performance by Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass) in the role of Lennon, the film was released more than two years ago in the United Kingdom and won a slew of awards.
Considering the unusually high quality of the film and the built-in interest of the subject matter, it should have been a sure hit in the United States. But for whatever reason, the distribution was botched and it trickled to the DVD market here with nary a peep. And since video stores are now as rare as Democrats in the Idaho legislature, even seeing it on DVD can be a pain.
But there's some good news for all you cinephiles and Beatlemaniacs out there: Nowhere Boy is playing this week at the Country Club Reel Theatre on Overland Road, meaning not only can you see it on the big screen, but you don't have to pay full price. Bonus.
