Tomorrow, on First Thursday, Art Source Gallery in downtown Boise will open their first ever juried Emerging Artists Featured Exhibition. From 5-8 p.m., they'll have wine, snacks and live music and they'll present awards at 6:30 p.m.
For this particular exhibition, Art Source set the rules as to who is an emerging artist as anyone who is self-taught or formally trained and who has sold less than 10 pieces in his or her burgeoning art career. To enter work, artists had to be at least 17 years old and were only allowed to submit artworks for the jurying process that had ben created in the past three years. Ultimately, 15 artists were selected, and their work ranges in media from photography to watercolor to sculpture.
According to the Facebook invite to the exhibition's opening event, "the show was conceived as a way for the gallery to give back to the arts community by taking some of the mystery out of applying for a juried show." Adding some extra educational components, Art Source Gallery has offered recent workshops on how to photograph artwork, how to fill out applications for juried shows and how to prepare work appropriately for a gallery exhibition.
The show runs through the end of January.
Art Source Gallery is at 1015 Main St. and is open Mon.-Sat. from 10am-6pm in case you miss the opening party.
