Ketchum's Arritola Begins New Year at National Championships

At least one Idahoan is grateful for the snowstorm that recently blasted the East Coast.

Ketchum's Morgan Arritola is among the nation's best nordic skiers, many of whom are making their way to Rumford, Maine, for the U.S. Short-Course Cross Country Championships, where they'll be greeted by a massive stockpile of snow.

The year 2010 was a big year for Arritola, who had solid showings at the Vancouver Winter Olympics. She was first among Americans in the 15K pursuit and second among Americans in the 10-kilometer freestyle. She already has her sites on the 2014 winter games.

Meanwhile, Sun Valley is touting the label of "Nordic Town USA" for 2011. In late January, the Sun Valley Nordic Festival returns followed by the SWIX Boulder Mountain Ski Tour in early February. The big event will be the U.S. Cross Country Long-Course Ski Championships in late March. And to cap things off, the USSA Super Tour Finals will slide into town March 29-April 2.
