Fiction 101 Deadline Looms

Attention procrastinating wordsmiths: We know it's hard to write without a deadline looming in your field of vision. Trust us, we get it. So consider this your kick in the butt: You have one more week to get your entries in for the annual BW Fiction 101 contest.

All entries are due in our office at 523 Broad St. no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17. And considering that's the same day as the annual BW Cover Auction, it's probably a good idea to get them in a little early since all of us BW staffers will be vacating the office early that day to put on one of our signature events.

Here's what you need to do:
First: Write a brilliant piece of fiction (no poetry, please) that measures exactly 101 words as counted by Microsoft Word. Titles will not be included in that 101-word count.
Second: Write your name, address and phone number on the back of each entry.
Third: Either bring your entries to BWHQ or mail them to us at Boise Weekly, 523 Broad St., Boise, ID 83702.
Fourth: Don't forget to include a $10 fee for each entry. You can enter as many wonderful works of fiction as you like, but each entry costs $10. And please, if you mail in your entries, don't send cash.
Fifth: Sit back and wait while all entries are judged by a panel of experts.
Sixth: Run out on the morning of Jan. 5, 2011 and check to see whose hard work netted them fame, glory and cash prizes.

If you still have questions, call BW Office Manager Shea Sutton at 208-344-2055. Now start writing.
