Some Similac baby formula is on recall and I am at a loss. As I write this I am looking at two nearly empty cans of Similac formula on my kitchen counter. Both are now on recall for potentially containing beetles. I am not talking John, Paul or Ringo, here—I am talking actual freaking bugs.
I am trying to imagine how this could have happened. Did someone look at the milk powder with crawly things in it and just say, “I’ll show those beetles … Bob, hit the grind button!”
On the Similac website is this mind bender of a quote: “infants who consume formula containing the beetles or their larvae, could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of small insect parts irritating the GI tract.”
Yes, you just read that the recall also involves beetle larvae. I may have been feeding my three-week-old son beetle-contaminated formula since he came home from the hospital. Perfect.
