In the past few weeks, local artists and arts organizations have been become quite the focus of city and state officials as they have been honored with numerous awards and grants for impacting the community in a positive way. In May, the Trey McIntyre Project won the title of Boise’s first Cultural Ambassador, four non-profits were awarded $20,000 as a part of the City’s Arts and History Economic Development Grant program earlier last week, and today, Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter announced the recipients of the 2010 Governor’s Awards in the Arts.
Fifteen artists, musicians, educators and administrators will be honored at a ceremony on Thursday, September 23 at the Egyptian Theatre.
Excellence in the Arts award winners include artist David Giese of Moscow; painter Alma Gomez of Boise; and musician and College of Southern Idaho professor George Halsell of Twin Falls.
Support of Arts Education awards go to Lynn “Doc” Skinner of Moscow and Richard E. Bird of Rexburg.
Excellence in Arts Administration award winners are Christine Hatch of Idaho Falls and Tom Tompkins of Boise .
Special commendations were awarded to Arthur Hart of Boise and Henry Tompkins, deceased, of Idaho Falls
And the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement award goes toSenator Jim and Louise McClure of Boise .
