Hidden Golden Tickets at Record Exchange

If you haven’t perused the used CD and DVD section at Record Exchange during the past week, you’ve been missing a golden opportunity. Last Tuesday, May 11, in conjunction with a similar giveaway from 4AD, The National’s record label, the Record Exchange introduced a new promotion.

“In various different genres and departments of the CDs and DVDs of our used products, we inserted our own golden tickets that people can then redeem for either $5 or $20 gift cards,” said Chad Dryden, marketing and promotions director at the Record Exchange. “We’ve had them in there for what will be a week from tomorrow and no one’s found them yet. We’ve got thousands of used products, so if no one finds one here soon, we’re going to start offering hints on our social media.”

In order to prevent trickery from customers opening up the sealed used CDs, the Record Exchange has gone out of their way to conceal the golden tickets.

“It’s probably going to be one of those things where people wont discover it until they get home because we’ve hidden them, it’s not like you just open up the CD and they’re sitting right there,” said Dryden.

Though there are only 20 $5 certificates and one $20 gift card currently hidden on the shelves, Dryden confirms that this will be an ongoing promotion. With each ticket that’s found, a new one will be created and inserted into another CD or DVD.

“Going into an independent record store is kind of a treasure hunt for a lot of people, especially those who are looking for used stuff,” said Dryden. “We thought this would be a fun way to add a little extra incentive and just have fun with it.”
