In celebration of the Boise Basque Museum’s exhibition “Hidden in Plain Sight: The Basques,” a group of more than a hundred Boiseans, including yours truly, packed our suitcases and headed to New York for the weekend.
Tomorrow morning, bright and early, we’ll all board a bus from the (super swank) Westin Hotel in Times Square and make our way to Battery Park where we’ll hop on a ferry for Ellis Island. In addition to the unveiling of the exhibition, there will be performances by the Oinkari Basque Dancers and the Biotzetik Basque Choir, as well as speakers, including: Guillermo Echenique, general secretary of foreign action of the Basque government; Patricia Lachiondo, president of the Basque Museum and Cultural Center and William Douglass, coordinator emeritus of Basque studies at the University of Nevada, Reno. Later in the evening, there will also be a reception at the Puck Building in Soho, where Amuma Says No will give a special rocking performance.
Check back for pictures and updates of tomorrow’s festivities. Agur!
