If you’re intrigued by the thought of tango but terrified to try out your new moves in front of a bunch of suave, high-heeled strangers, the Boise Tango Society wants to help ease you into it. Beginning tonight, instructor Marge Dobie will kick-off a three-class series at Boise Cafe, which continues on Oct. 22 and 29, titled Tango Fundamentals. Event organizer Camille Wood notes that beginners should come dressed in clothing that they feel comfortable in, but leave the rubber-soled shoes at home.
“Argentine Tango, I know it sounds kind of odd, but it’s all about the walking. The walking to the beat and really feeling the rhythm of the music and understanding the music before you go into more of the steps,” said Wood. “Tango’s really all about communicating with your partner non-verbally, because it’s improvisational.”
Tonight’s class costs $7 and runs from 7:30-8:15 p.m. Those who want to test out their new moves with some seasoned pros can pay an extra $3 and stick around for Boise Tango Society’s weekly Tango Practica.
